We're related because I'm a descendant of Abraham Pierson's sister Rebecca, who married Joseph Johnson, whose daughter Margaret married Joseph Brown, II. The Brown's settled in Milford in 1639 and were among the forty or so families who settled Newark in 1666. In fact, John Browne's name was one of four or five signitures on the treaty with the Lenape Indians for the Newark property. Interestingly enough, I'm an academic and just last year retired after teaching African History to African American students at Norfolk State University for forty years. I was one of the first Peace Corps Volunteers and spent two years in Nigeria among the igbo from 1962-64. My mother's mother's family were original New Yorkers and was descended from the Kingman's, Schermerhorn's, Van Buren's, Delano's and numerous Mayflower families, in addition to the first settlers of almost all the first New England colonies. Through the Schermerhorn's, she was a descendant of Pieter Minuit, who purchased Manhattan from the Indians and was the first governor of Manhattan or New Amsterdam. Our line of Brown's moved to Eastern Tennessee after the Civil War, where we interconnected with many old southern families in Virginia, and Jamestown, and even a line from Chief Powhatan's brother.

Long story short - I was bored at work and started to do a little internet cruising to learn more about the life of my grandfather - Caryl Mason Sheldon. How surprised I was to find a picture of Caryl and his mother, Clara Belle Mason. I know a good bit about the story of Caryl's father, Eli Sheldon and of course the story of Caryl moving his mother to California to start a new life - at the age of 13. He ended up being a California Superior Court judge.
Caryl Sheldon had several more grandkids than is listed on your web-site. Myslef, Thomas, and my brothers Mark and Andrew. We are all sons of Donald Sheldon.
Can you tell me who Cheryl Dau is and how she came to have the picture of Clara Belle and Caryl?

My grandmother Francis Pierson has told me for years that we are related to Abraham Pierson. My grandmother met my grandfather Norman A. Pierson in centerville, Alabama in the early 1930's I believe. My great grandfather Howard Owen Pierson (Dad HOP)was a telegraph operator for the railroad. Anyway my grandmother is way into our genealogy and would probably love this site...only she is 90 years old and can't see well enough to use a computer. I quickly ran through the your lists and didn't see us..I could have missed it because I didn't have alot of time to look. To be honest I'm contacting you on my grandmother's behalf...her short term memory is going but her childhood memories are still strong which is probably why she is so interested in the past and how we got here. I personally don't really share her joy of genealogy but I value the knowledge and maybe later on in life will develop more of an interest. There is just to much time involved in research. I have a Molly Leavitt in my family tree. She was born in 1723 in Exeter, Rockingham, New Hampshire. She died in 1761, no location noted. She married John Lougee also of Exeter, Rockingham, New Hampshire. He was born in 1719 and died in 1795 in Gilmanton, Belknap, New Hampshire. I have so far no ancestry. In looking at your site, Hezekiah 2 has a daughter Molly listed with his second wife with no further information. I wonder if Molly was in fact his first child with his first wife, not his last child with his second wife. She is the ONLY Molly that I found in your genealogy. From the History of Davis Co.[Iowa] 1882, page 735.
OWENS, THOMAS, a stock-raiser and farmer, owns one of the best stock farms in the county, consisting of 440 acres, in section 8, with a good house, barn and orchard of six acres. He was born October 22, 1825, in Indiana, being the son of James H. and Sarah C. Owens. He resided in Posey county, Indiana until he was twenty-four, receiving his education in the common schools. In 1849 he went to McLean county, Illinois and in the winter of 1868 came to this county [Davis]. He was married September 18, 1847, to Nancy W. McReynolds of Posey county, Indiana. They have had eleven children, Sarah J., James L., Huldah E., Elizabeth A., Mary E., Hannah M., T. B., [presumed to be Thomas B.], Nancy C., Flora Belle., Fanny Susan., and John F., Mr. O is extensively engaged in stock-raising, his sales during the last year amounting to over $2000. Mrs Owens died in January, 1876, and Mr., O was married to his present wife, a very estimable lady. Mr. O. is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and has been a ruling elder for sixteen years. He is a man of intelligence and always ready to assist in whatever tends to advance the interests of his neighborhood. His post office is Savannah.

My grand mother is 5th generation, Minnie Owens. My father was Joseph Albert Richards. The information you have on both my parents is correct. In addition, my father is also buried at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Eugene next to my mother, Bertha McCall Richards.
You do have an errorin their children. You show 3 children. That is incorrect. There were only 2. My sister was Ruth Diane Richards, born 1/10/31 and she recently died on 1/20/03 in San Diego. She was married to Bernard Patrick O'Brien on 3/12/54 in Reno Nevada. They were divorced in 1975. There were 5 children from that marriage. I was born 5/3/37. My birth certificate shows my name as Joe McCall Richards, not Joseph. I have 2 children, Dean Andrew Richards born 6/28/69 and Ann Louise (Richards) Kiser born 5/6/72. The Ruth Buck you refered to was my mother's sister, Ruth Barksdale McCall Buck. We have much more information is you would like to contact me I will be glad to give you anything we have.

The Richard Reeves that married Jane Owens was the son of William and Elinor(Wiggins) Reeves or Reaves. Elinor was the sister of my gggg-gm Christian(a) Wiggins. Mother just moved to an assisted living facility last month and I'm still busy with emptying her apt, etc. We will be going through some old photos and I'd like to share them with you. I have in my possession a photo of the family at the funeral of Ella Williamson, our grandmother. It is a real classic of them sitting in the church sanctuary. If you don't have it, you must! So let me know.
We have never been really close to the rest of the family since we have always lived in SE Kansas, but I do correspond with your mother each Christmas.

This is a beautiful site, the side bar and matching buttons are great, easy on the eyes, the color scheme is great! I love the picture of the old barn, much like the one my grandfather had before lightening hit it and burned it to the ground, loosing all equipment, hay, and feed inside.
