My GGGF John Ryan was born in Cappawhite, Tipperary in 1803 (to William Ryan and Ellen Butler). He came to Australia (don't know when or how) and married Teresa Bannigan in Sydney in 1846 (she was originally from Newry,Ireland but then living in Bathurst, NSW (I think). The couple must have lived in Sydney, taken a trip to England and then settled in Queensberry Street, Carlton (Melbourne) and had 11 children (incl. Ellen b. Sydney 1847, Phillip Joseph b. Bath, England 1848, Teresa Mary b. Bathurst 1850, Michael Bernard b. Sydney 1852, Andrew John b. Melbourne 1854, Elizabeth Ann b. Melbourne 1855, Edmund 1857-1858, Francis Edmund, b. Melbourne 1859, Thomas Joseph b. Melbourne 1860, John William b. Melbourne 1862, Mary Ellen b. Melbourne 1864). My GGF was Francis Edmund, who inherited the Coachmakers Arms Hotel in Carlton from his father. His father left properties all over North Melbourne and Carlton to his many offspring. Francis Edmund married Jeannette Marguerite St George in 1861 in Fitzroy, Melbourne. One of their children was Grace Hope b. Richmond 1895, my grandmother; she married William Charles Hannen in Brunswick in 1918. Their daughter Lyla Grace Hannen, b. 1919 in Carlton, was my mother. I must have some relatives, although there does seem to have been thousands of Ryans in Cappawhite. I have a photograph of an old hotel in Cappawhite with the name 'Ryan' etched in the brickwork - could have been one of thousands!

I wonder whether my ancestor Ellen Ryan, born in 1856 in Ireland came from Tipperary? Ellen married Joseph Lismore (1846 - 1881) September 1876 in Bradford upon Avon and they lived in Bristol. When Joseph died, I believe that Ellen moved to Liverpool. Her sister Mary Ryan was living with Joseph and Ellen and their children in 1881. Would appreciate any information you might have.

I am doing research on my ggg grandmother Hanora Kelly (nee Ryan). She is from Shevry, Parish of Upperchurch (Co. Tipperary). 1825-1888.
This additional info may help:
She married a Bernard Kelly (it's my understanding he is also from Tipperary, but I don't know anything else...). They were married in Ireland and came to the US around 1874. They settled in Indianapolis. They had children in Irealnd and some (if not all) came over with them as well.
Can't seem to find any info through the usual routes so I'm posting on here hoping maybe someone has come across the name in their research!
Thanks so much!!!

My first 'sighting' of them was living in Birkenhead, England in 1856, but after that all Ryan descendants resided in Liverpool. If anybody can help me tracing which part of Tipperary they are from I would love to hear rom you.

I am looking for family connections to my gggrandmother Peg (Margaret) Ryan who married James Ahearn in Cappawhite in about 1841. Her father was John Ryan and mother was Ann Kennedy. They had six children who were baptised in the Cappawhite parish - Patrick b1842, John b1844, Roady b1846, Maria b1851, Hugh b1853, Margaret b1856, Julia b1858. The family may have come from Holyford (Holy Forna) but I cannot find this on any modern maps.
The son Roady Ahearn (my ggrandfather) went on to marry another Ryan from Cappawhite parish when he came to Australia. She was Mary Ryan of Ballinlough, daughter of Martin Ryan and Margaret Bourke.

My grandfather Michael Ryan was baptized in Cappawhite on 10th June 1863. He had a sister Mary and a brother Jeremiah ,among other siblings. His parents were William Ryan and Mary Breen or Brien. They may have come from Kilpatrick, and have married in Anacarty on 7th June 1838. They were evicted from their home in Cappawhite approx. 1866, and William died in Tipperary Poorhouse. If anyone has any more information about William , I'd be pleased to know. Also I have more info on Michael if anyone is interested.
